Hello I reply to Armin's release critical bug report and also cc'ing the maintainer, past uploaders of mediathekview and Rhonda, who has offered help and advice with sponsoring requests [1], in the hope that we all can improve the current situation of mediathekview in Debian. First of all i'm not the maintainer but i would like to contribute and help with packaging. I've done some research and i've compared the actual version of mediathekview 3.0 with our current version in Debian. I have also opened a thread at the upstream support forum to gather advice how to deal with the situation. [2] One forum member pointed me to another thread where the main developer clearly stated that he does not intend to support two different versions of mediathekview. [3] Note: German is required. At the moment only version 3.0 supports a list with all available movies while you can only use a manual method in 2.4 to retrieve a fraction of the supported streams. It is unlikely that upstream will implement a feature to support the new lists of movies with the old 2.4 branch of mediathekview. In 3.0 the GUI has considerably changed and a lot of functions under the hood were rewritten and new features added. I think the delta is too big to grant a freeze exception but that's my personal opinion. All in all supporting version 2.4 in Wheezy would mean a lot of work for the maintainer and would be most likely futile because 2.4 is outdated and broken and won't be fixed by the upstream developers. Therefore i also recommend to remove Mediathekview 2.4 from Wheezy. I would like to work on Mediathekview 3.0 and reintroduce it in Jessie/Sid. At the moment my package compiles with the help of the Ant build system but it is not finished. Feedback and thoughts about Mediathekview in Debian are much appreciated.
