Would you mind submitting a patch to fix this problem? I suggest this course of action because this bug is a prety important one, in my opinion, and should be fixed as soon as possible. Sponsorship can take a while, especially if you added more stuff to your package. Therefore, I suggest submitting your patch to fix this FTBFS bug and then we worry about sponsorship.
