The latest CUPS update to fix some aspect of PostScript printing had no effect on my problem with the Brother HL-5240. It still cranks out single blank sheets although the "PDF file is damaged" is gone and per the Web interface the job seems to be completed "normally".
I've confirmed no change in behavior with evince and Iceweasel after the CUPS 1.5.2-5 in Sid and cold system restart.
