I have uploaded to my Git a patched version for Squeeze. I tried to keep changes as minimal as possible so that there's a chance it's accepted by the release team.
If a bug affects both stable and unstable, release managers usually want it to be fixed in unstable first.

I rebuilt 0.8.3+really0.8.2-1 with 87207f8b9c8b142466c4eb75bcd7a768eda97295 applied (in unstable) and I can confirm that it fixes gammu build problems.
