And what if you try sith an other driver? I thankfuzlly don't have a unstable system with nvidia hardware in it so I can't test either way. Besides that I don't see how file->open (which works in 99.9% of all users obviously, otherwise there would have been a report for this far earlier) is related to X or the system at large.
