No, I don't think so: Both postgresql-8.1 and postgresql-client-8.1 depend on libpq4. Which version of libpq4 do you have installed? Can you please do ldd /usr/lib/postgresql/8.1/bin/initdb | grep libpq ? You should have /usr/lib/libpq.so.4. Can you please check these things?
