the good news: this is already fixed upstream, together with a number of other 
bugs just waiting for a new release.
the bad news: we (with my upstream hat on) are all on vacation, so the ETA for 
the new release is >= 3 weeks away.

Therefory, I think I'll cherry-pick the change in question and do a -2 upload 
today.
