I have provided a partial fix in Debian bug#580455 but I have not
gotten any
feedback from the developers.

i think isn't a good practice your cross posting because not every
ppc/yaboot user is a debian user too.
You should need to use at last yaboot-1.3.15rc (released 17/02/2009)
that supports a longer append string.
