I've prepared a 0-day NMU for this bug, to get axiom through the C++ ABI transition. Please find the patch attached. In addition to adding a versioned build-depends on libgmp-dev, this patch migrates axiom to use libreadline5-dev. If the build succeeds here, I plan to upload directly to ftp-master.debian.org.
