Hi Eckhart, The linux-image-2.6.32-bpo.3-686 you mentioned did fix the problem with the modem. However, it lacked drivers for my ATI Radeon Mobility 9000 video card. It seemed to function a bit slower, and would sometimes boot to a black screen with a functional mouse. So, I unfortunately had to resort back to the linux-image-2.6.26-2-686
