Yes, upstream (Tom Sgouros) is aware of the problems in the package. But he doesn't have time and thus, upstream looks a bit orphaned. You can remove hyperlatex from unstable for now, and I will upload with Depends: and Build-Depends: emacs. Then I can still decide if the package should be removed from Debian or if we can fix the problems. Removing the documentation build would just hide bugs that will fire back when in the field (stable) and we need to support it.
