I tried to test building this against libvtk5.2 in sid and I noticed that this package doesn't even have a -dev. So I downloaded the source package and tried to figure out where libvtk5.2 comes from by building the source package. The build failed. It appears vtk is broken therefore caret will not build until that is fixed.
