Hi all,

Moin,

There would be three alternatives: 1. drop docbook feature. 2. embed a copy of python-xml in moin package. 3. keep using the current python-xml which has almost no bugs.

1 -> will automatically happen at moin 2.0 if noone ports docbook stuff
from 1.9 to 2.0 (and maintains it in 2.0).

2 -> likely possible, we have quite some stuff in MoinMoin/support/
anyway.

We should *not* stuff code into python-moin that is being abandoned by its Debian package maintainers.

(and btw I feel that your choice of naming unsupported code as "support" is misleading - often such dir is named "contrib", i.e. contributed from others without being endorsed, maintained or supported by you).

A comparable area for Debian is our "non-free" packages, which we offer without guarantees or security promises. But even then it makes little sense for me to ship something that is considered broken by its latest contributor.

3 -> least work

Since Stefano calls the docbook plugin broken and Frank Li writes that his patches still has major bugs, keeping python-xml package alive (or stuffing it into moin package) won't solve the real issue.

If the issue stay as it is, my favorite scenario would be (1) (drop docbook support).

For 1.9, that would be rather unexpected (and for some moin docbook users quite disruptive).

I fail to understand that: Is docbook working properly with 1.9?

For Debian, the python-moin package now only suggests python-xml and Frank Lin have provided a patch so that docbook plugin is only tried if python-xml exist. This means users are free to try grab an old or unofficial python-xml and keep docbook alive, and on the other hand python-moin do not stall the process of killing official Debian support for python-xml.

I have thus lowered severity of this bug, and (due to none of us discussing here offering to step up as _maintainer_ of the docbook plugin) tagged it as wontfix.

For the record I too would be happy to see someone taking the challenge of adopting the docbook plugin and pouring love into it as new upstream author of it.

Kind regards,

 - Jonas
