It once happened on my "real" computer at home (it has a Radeon 9500 [i.e. R300] type GPU from ~2003 running woth the free "radeon" driver) and in a Virtual Box just now. I assume, both video hardware could hardly be more different. ;)

I often experienced bug reports about crashing games but the real
culprit was a bug in Mesa (libGL.so) :(

There is a comment in an ubuntu bug which claims "it seems to be a general warsow problem with i386 architecture. It's not possible to reproduce with x64. warsow 0.5 is affected too". o_O
