In essence, to minimize the intrusiveness of the NMU.

Maintainer was explicitly calling aclocal-1.10 from debian/rules, so I
guessed he could have a reason for that (maybe a reason inherited from
upstream). Sure if the problem still stands for the time we get rid of
automake-1.10 from the archive (years away in the future), a more
general patch can be applied.

... or the maintainer can react now and implement such a solution right
away overriding my NMU.
