I installed package 'distccmon-gnome', ran distccmon-gnome as a normal user during a kernel build, couldn't see anything. Then I built the package from source, ran it during a 'make menuconfig' from the client machine and couldn't see anything.
I will try and run the menuconfig and/or kernel build with 'fakeroot'
and see if that makes a difference.
