Actually, that wouldn't resolve the issue because that would now silently fail. Instead, I propose to if !Pycairo_CAPI fprintf(stderr, "Failing to load python library, is python-cairo installed?\n"), if Pycairo_CAPI { boost::python::converter::registry::insert(...); boost::python::converter::registry::insert(...); } and also to add python-cairo to the depends-line of python-mapnik.
