Package: gettext-base
Version: 0.14.5-2
Severity: serious

the libasprintf library contained in gettext-base is built for the new
C++ ABI. IMO you cannot use the same package name.

Maybe a correct solution is to split the library into a separate
libasprintf0c2 package and keep the -dev files in the gettext-base
package.

Yes, I can, because packages linked to libasprintf depend (via the
dpkg-shlibdeps mechanism) on the library provided by gettext-base,
*not* on gettext-base itself, and I have renamed the library provided
by gettext-base and modified accordingly the shlibs file.

I fully agree that it would be a serious bug if packages linked to
libasprintf just had a Depends: gettext-base, but that's not the case.

Moreover, AFAIK, there is not a single package in Debian using this
library yet.
