This of cause makes any biarch needing package FTBFS on the buildds with fakeroot. There was a post on debian-devel how to stay compatible with sarge and etch versions. The other change is that gcc-4.0 is now the default gcc and fakeroot should drop the Build-Depends on gcc-3.4 and stick with gcc for amd64 too.
