Moreover I noted that the freepops-update-zenity returns the message:
"error: Could not resolve host: www.freepops.org (DNS server returned answer 
with no data)"
that is the same error of freepopsd.
I chatted with some guys in the freepops forum and they say it should work.
I use freepops since many years, I'm quite sure the problem is distro-related; 
maybe the lua5.1 could be the source of the problem?
