I had a similar problem: iceweasel would freeze when opening Tools -> Addons,
or launching the Brief add-on, and eventually SEGV. strace revealed similar
behaviour pattern to the entry above.
Moving /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins out of
the way seemed to resolve the pb. I eventually tracked it down to
libjavaplugin_oji.so. This links to
/etc/alternatives/libjavaplugin_oji_mozilla_firefox.so
which in turn links to
/usr/lib/j2se/1.4/jre/plugin/i386/mozilla/libjavaplugin_oji.so
which belongs to
/usr/lib/j2se/1.4/jre/plugin/i386/mozilla/libjavaplugin_oji.so
So I installed sun-java6-{bin,jre,plugin} and removed j2re1.4 and it all seems
to work fine now.
In the strace above, I don't see libjavaplugin_oji, but libjavaplugin, so
maybe my case has nothing to do with this one. OTOH, it might just be a
different plugin causing pbs...
