There's a patch by David Woodhouse, which fixes several drivers to use request_firmware(). I'll look into submitting patches for linux-2.6 once 2.6.26 is in unstable, so that we can add support to firmware-nonfree for the ALSA drivers. Since TTBOMK the affected drivers in alsa-driver are covered by the kernel ALSA drivers we should just prune them from the alsa-driver tarball, I suppose.
