I want to say yaird is yet good alternative for initramfs-tools from my experince. > i have asked the submitter to submit a proper bugreport to > initramfs-tools about the 2.6.22 failure. as he is debian > developer this is not demanding too much. Umm, not so good Debian developer, but I'll submit a bug report as maximilian advised, perhaps in the next week. The Alpha machine is in a office of a univ. so I will not test it in this week end. Sorry for that. On Wed, 2 Apr 2008 10:46:45 +0200, maximilian attems wrote: > sure but i was reffering to the initramfs-tools failure, > who is the default tool and known to generaly work on alpha. I maintain two alpha machines but they are very sensitive and I experienced boot failure many times with them. In fact, one fails to boot with kernel greater than 2.6.12 and so it is running with 2.6.12-1-alpha-generic even now. The other, which I reffered to in this report, booted successfully until 2.6.24-1-alpha-generic came and there was time when it failed to boot with kernels of versions smaller than 2.6.8 So I think to have two options for generating initrd.img is good for users.
