For what it's worth, I intend to prepare new ICU packages for whatever the current version of ICU is post-sarge. Last time I looked, this was version 3.2. I have spoken to both the icu and icu28 maintainers about this intention, though not for a few months. (I'm actually on vacation now -- I may not check email again before I get back at the end of the month.)
