Please install the pidgin-dbg and libgtk2.0-0 packages, and get a
backtrace as described here:
http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/GetABacktrace
Also, moving your ~/.purple directory out of the way and trying again
might help, as will attaching the output of "pidgin -d".
