Unfortunately I have rebooted since the upgrade so the files in /tmp/ are lost. Maybe I can upgrade yet another box from previous texlive install (have to check) by first purging tetex-bin and installing the new texlive-base (2007-7) and texlive-base-bin (2007-8). Version 2007-9 of texlive-base-bin seem to work for you as described above. Maybe this is not even interesting since the latest version is now 2007-9 :-)
