Sorry you ran into this problem, it's annoying when the X server crashes!

However, this is a problem with the upstream program--and is a real danger 
with any binary-only, non-free, proprietary program; it doesn't really have 
anything to do with googleearth-package which only makes *packages* of the 
googleearth program. I am happy to fix bugs in the packaging, but any use 
of the packages is really at your own risk.

My guess is that you do not have a supported video card, or not new enough 
binary drivers if you have e.g. an nvidia card. But if you continue to have 
problems with the software itself, googleearth-package isn't the right 
place to report it, just like you can't really file bugs against 
flashplugin-nonfree when it crashes your browser, since it's just an 
installer and can't do anything about it. Better is to go to Google Earth's 
online Linux support forums.
