Below is the output of reportbug on my system with a (you guessed right!) missing /etc/python2.3/site.py due to a system restore (old /etc/ on an otherwise newly set-up system). Idiotic thing is that is seems a python "dpkg -i" is only possibl when a site.py is already there, but I had one as a backup, reportbug works again.

More than likely, you (or someone else on your system or disk failure)
has corrupted your /etc/python2.3/site.py file in some way.  Please
try reinstalling python2.3 and seeing if this fixes the problem.
