I sure understand this is not a patch that Debian itself wants to carry alone, nor might it want to develop it alone... But one part of a Maintainers job is collecting things like this, forwarding them to the right place, etc. Thats one of the nice things of the BTS, it is not just a place for "Debian only" bugs. It can and does carry much more.
