I'd suggest just editing drivers/acpi/video.c by hand to make the change directly, then running make deb-pkg; # maybe with -j4 dpkg -i ../<name of package> reboot to test. (No need for another acpidump --- its output is always the same on a given machine, except when BIOS settings change or in some unusual cases of corruption which don't match your symptoms.)
