Since you already have to package other questionable software which isn't in Debian to use this, claiming that this change "breaks a working program" seems like a bit of a stretch. http://bugs.debian.org/635516 http://bugs.debian.org/515850 That one application outside of Debian with some dubious dependencies requires this doesn't mean it will be needed by anything else which has a future. As you rightly point out, there are things which exist outside of Debian which other people build for themselves. If nobody cares enough about the wxMedia wrappers to implement them sanely and maintain them, then that seems like the perfect scope for them to exist in too. http://trac.wxwidgets.org/ticket/3719 Software with no active or interested upstream needs a more compelling proof of usefulness than "I don't care enough to build it for myself either" ...
