severity 323413 grave thanks I was just hit by the very same bug because your downgrade allowed the buggy package to enter testing. After upgrading my etch machine I wasn't able to use cryptsetup anymore. This machines runs the 2.6.12 kernel from etch: linux-image-2.6.12-1-k7 version 2.6.12-6.
After finding this problem I tried on my sid machine that has the 2.6.12 kernel from sid (2.6.12-7) to no avail. Goign back to the sarge version of libdevmapper fixed my problem. A bug like this shouldn't make it into testing, please be careful with a downgrade of severity.
