The logger(1) present in the binary package bsdutils in version 1:2.19.1-5
certainly lacks INET support, likewise the manual page logger(1) clearly
relates to UNIX sockets only. The output of

   $ strings -a /usr/bin/logger | egrep 'socket|udp|port|server

is on architecture linux-i386 only finding "socket" as appearing in

   $ logger -u socket Tell me where

and two related messages. None of the switches you mention.
Does this mean that LaMont Jones is shipping a crippled logger(1)?

  Mats
