http://lists.baseurl.org/pipermail/yum-devel/2011-December/008899.html I believe the issue is really minor. According to Zdenek from RedHat, this isn't corruption, just UTF-8 that shouldn't be there. Accordingly, I'm setting this bugs severity to "minor", which matches this definition: "things like spelling mistakes and other minor cosmetic errors that do not affect the core functionality of the package" Honestly, I will have no time to look into this further. So if you have time to investigate and produce a patch, please go ahead, but remember that: - It wont make it to Debian stable as a fix for a "minor" issue will not be accepted. - I will anyway upload a new upstream release before Wheezy is frozen, which might fix the issue. I hope my answer isn't disappointing, and that you understand that all Debian work is volunteer driven. I personally care about yum only for bootstrapping RPM based distributions in a chroot, and I really think that it should be considered the only valid way to use yum in Debian. In fact, considering the number of packages I maintain, I am thinking about filing an RFA. But if you want to co-maintain yum with me, I'd be very happy to have somebody to at least help, if not adopting the package.
