Cc:ing everyone who asked, sorry for the delay. Also Cc:ing the Ubuntu maintainer (or at least the guy who uploaded the biggest number of bacula versions to Ubuntu, forward this to the proper person in case I am wrong), we should really join our efforts. The Git repository on Alioth already have an 'ubuntu' branch: ideally, the Ubuntu package should be generated from that branch, so we do not do any work twice. Chuck, do you think it would be feasible for you (or any other Ubuntu maintainer involved) to switch to the Git repository on Alioth? But only the doc package was. You mean #612297: without looking into details, I do not see why this should not be in the pkg-bacula group. > However I want to help to get 5.2.1 into unstable. > Is there any work done already? Any git? Yes: <http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-bacula/pkg-bacula.git;a=summary> is the new Git repository (debian/control should be updated). But I figure it's > better to ask before I do so. I should pay amend, given that both Jan and myself got busy with other stuff and left the current package resting for a while as it is. Nevertheless, IMHO before any big update we should review Jan's improvements and if they are OK (i.e. if they are tested to work properly) upload a 5.0.3-2 package with them: <http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-bacula-devel/2011-October/000093.html> In the meantime, we should import the Ubuntu changes into the 'ubuntu' branch and then merge the changes with Jan's above, thus releasing a 5.2.1-1 package. Any help is very much welcome, but please keep everything on the Git repository now that we finally have a packaging group. Feel free to use the mailing list for any internal communication (it is there for this purpose). Please note that we should focus on *clean* upgrades, given how much critical is a backup software. This means that any change should be carefully tested. Thx, bye, Gismo / Luca
