Hi, This bug report http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=300747 is quite valid one but maintainer left no response fot 6 years.
I just tested one of the kinput2-* on recent wheezy/sid system with modern UTF-8 setup with updated im-config 0.6. To my surprise, it works ... sort of. I see it works only with kterm. not with xterm nor gnome-terminal-emulator. At least, under gtk3 version of nome-terminal-emulator, shift-space does not start kinput ... so never activated.
