All I know is that real world XML is chock full of colons, e.g., the http://xmlbeans.apache.org/docs/2.0.0/guide/conSelectingXMLwithXQueryPathXPath.html so it would be helpful if the example file and examples on the man page were rewritten showing how to get the same results on such real life files.
