Thank you for looking into this. The problem persisted for several months, I think, but then disappeared. I don't think I have experienced such a deadlock in the last half-year or so, but unfortunately can't remember more precisely when the change happened. So probably this bug report can be closed.
For the record, I'm still using a more-or-less current testing all the time, so at the moment the kernel is 3.1.0-1-amd64.
