Package: a2ps
Version: 4.13b-4.3
1. The exact and complete text of any error messages printed or logged.
This is very important:
The error is that footers are not printed on a page. Also, on the other
version of a2ps that I was using, the headers could be printed without a
gray bar. On this version I can get the headers to print but only with
the gray bar (header bar). This was a very useful feature for me.
2. Exactly what you typed or did to demonstrate the problem.
Lynx /usr/share/doc/a2ps/README.gz
(save to a file in the home directory)
(unzip the file in the home directory)
a2ps -P printer_name --pages=1 usr-share-doc-a2ps-READEME
3. A description of the incorrect behavior: exactly what behavior you
were expecting, and what you observed. A transcript of an example
session is a good way of showing this.
First, I ran a2ps out of the box. I prints very nicely with headers and
borders but no footers.
Second, I changed to changed the a2psrc file to take out the
headers, footers, and borders. It did this very nicely.
Third, I went to debian-user mailing list and asked if anyone had
encountered this problem. I got and answer that one respondent had
tried to print but got no footers on his machine.
One respondent advised to make sure that I was using the proper size
paper. The a2ps.cfg said --medium=libpaper and the /etc/something-I
think is was papersize file said letter.
Fourth, I tried the following:
a2ps -P printer_name --pages=1 --medium=letter (file_name)
It printed the same as before. Headers, borders but no footers.
A suggested fix, or even a patch, if you have one.
I sent a email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED] with
the following information on the documentation that I found while
researching the problem but they haven't gotten back to me. I do not
believe that this documentation would create the problem. I just think
it is more of an error in documentation.
quote:
In reading through the documentation I did discover the following in the
a2ps.README file
On page 4 of that file:
There are several things a2ps needs to know about your system in order
to work properly. Running configure should be enough to have
appropriate values, nevertheless, it sure in better if you good check
the following items:
1. At the end of etc/a2rps_cg, the lines (I believe this should be
/etc/a2ps.cfg).
a.FileCommand:
b.variable: lp.default
c.variable: lp
2. At the top of the etc/a2ps-site.cfg, the lines
a. Options: --encoding=
b. Options: --medium=
These items are not in that particular place in the respective files but
the items are listed in the files.
On page 3 in the same file it said:
--with-medium=MEDIUM
I tried this on the command line and got an error with the default
letter as MEDIUM.

The versions on any packages on which the buggy package depends.
I don't know this one.
What version of the kernel are you using.
Debian 3.1 stable with the 2.4 linux kernel
Appropriate details of the hardware on your system.
My machine is a i686 pc using the CUPS printing system which doesn't
seem to give me any trouble so far. The Printer is a HP 2100m series
printer set up to use letter paper. The a2ps config file calls of
--medium=libpaper and /etc/papersize says letter.
If I have miss configured this program I apologize and any help in
solving this problem would be appreciated.
