Usually installing ALSA stuff and run "alsaconf" is enough though it often requiresq a reboott for things to properly work. This is mostly because the interface you used (dialog) is not the only possible interface (text interface is used in some architectures and a graphical interface is likely to be used in the future). So, referring to possible user interface is highly discouraged. However, the libraries used by debconf to display this should actually really display some information to users, just like it's currently done in D-I first stage.
