Questions: Also sorry for the stupid questions. :) cdebootstrap-helper-apt's postinst runs apt-get -o Debug::NoLocking=1 update after setting up the target's sources.list to use the bootstrap method to grab packages that were downloaded to /var/cache/bootstrap. Unfortunately it is not easy to reproduce this without knowing the state of the archive (and in particular the state of e.g. the apt package) at the time of failure. (For the future, <http://snapshot.debian.org/> can help in phrasing bugs like this such that they remain reproducible instead of going stale when the archive changes.)
