I'd like to add "yes please" to this Request For Enhancement. For instance, dvi files can be handled by xdvi which is found in texlive-binaries. But the mime definition for xdvi comes from texlive-base not texlive-binaries. The feature requested in this bug would help catch this kind of discrepancy.
