"Your package" are which packages exactly in this case?

Do you have
/var/lib/dpkg/status and
/var/lib/apt/extended_states around?

Its a lot easier to reproduce these kind of bugs with these files
as they highly depend on which and how packages are installed
(aka: explicitly mentioned and therefore manual or implicit automatic…)

Otherwise a few more details what you (or a script?) did would be good.
