I've put it into the git branch feature/eatmydata as I didn't have time to
test it yet.
I've added a changelog entry and added eatmydata to the depends.

Reading these paragraphs again I think I understand why you didn't suggest a
depends ;-)
Maybe you can come up with an enhanced patch which gracefully deals with the
non-existance of eatmydata, so we can turn the depends into a recommends
without annoying people who dont install recommends...
