It appears that upstream versions 2.4 and later contain all the enhancements
needed.
These include:
o a bug fix for LDL-formatted disks that allows the partition starting
sector and number of sectors to be calculated correctly if the
block size of the disk is something other than 4096
o Support for CMS-formatted minidisks, both non-reserved and reserved
o Support for FBA DASD devices
o Support for the DIAG driver
For s390 users, these are major enhancements, and will be particularly
advantageous
during installation. Please package a new upstream version of parted for Debian
as soon as possible.
