The line should read /SupportedUnicodeLocales = es_AR.UTF-8 /SupportedUnicodeLocales = es_AR.utf8 is wrong.
This fixes the problem with java-based programs (such as jabref) and at least with lyx. In the original bug-report, the author has performed this change. Apparently he has not installed scim-qtimm that will handle QT based programs. I have found that scim does not change behavior until the Xserver is relaunched (even if running scim- programs are killed or configuration is re-read) Hernan
