Power manager currently needs xscreensaver to lock the screen (or at least it's what is part of the xfce4 task). Instead power manager should use one of the simple screen lockers and manage the DPMS and blanking itself. For two reasons: a) it's somewhat confusing which DPMS settings will be used when xscreensaver is used along with xfce4-power-manager (at least I really don't know), and b) for laptops screensavers actually reduce battery power when on battery, and even without that for LCD monitors DPMS off is better than running a screensaver for screen longevity.
