Hello James,
For some reason the previous two mails (from 2008 and 2009) to this bug report
never reached me. I tried vim-gnome again yesterday, found that the issue was
still there, and then found the solution in an online forum. Going back to my
bug report I finally saw your email and the one by Rene Hausleitner. I tried his
solution, and I can report that it indeed solves the problem.
