The problem isn't limited to remote execution. I use IceWm as my window
manager and consistently got the error in a local X session after
upgrading to squeeze (emacs23 23.2+1-7). Quick fix was to install the
dbus-x11 package which provides the missing /usr/bin/dbus-launch: it
sounds like building emacs23 --without-gconf is the Right Thing, but if
for some reason that can't be done then dbus-x11 should at least be
added as a dependency.
