I am not sure if this is the right package against report this, but anyway I will tell what happened to me. I joined a wi-fi network using wicd, and it automatically started dhcp client to obtain an IP address. The problem was that the dhcp had changed my hostname as well. As a consequence, i was no longer able to start kde applications, because they were unable to connect to my display (they use the local hostname i suppose).
